Gotthard Kuehl lived from 1879 to 1889 in Paris where he was influenced by the examples of Manet and Bastien-Lepage. From 1889 to c. 1895 he was active in Munich, after which he settled in Dresden. Gotthard Kuehl belongs to a small group of German Impressionists who combine naturalism with aspects of the new plein-air style.
