We kindly thank Peter Prange, formerly Kunsthalle Hamburg, for his comprehensive essay to our drawing, May 2022. Peter Prange dates our sheet to the beginning of Erhard’s Viennese period, when he collaborated with his fellow Nuremberger Johann Adam Klein. The resting traveller in uniform could be their common friend Ernst Welcker, an artist and patriot who joined the Lützow Freicorps in 1813 to fight Napoleon.
