Heinrich Jalowetz, an Austrian conductor and composer, was a student of Arnold Schoenberg and Alexander von Zemlinsky as well as répétiteur with Gustav Mahler. In 1938 he emigrated to the United States, where he taught at Black Mountain College until death. His daughter Trude Guermonprez, a textile artist trained at the Bauhaus, also became a teacher there in 1947 through the help of Anni Albers.
Moriz Nähr is considered a pioneer of photography in Vienna around 1900. He was a friend of Gustav Klimt and closely associated with the Vienna Secession.
Our print was probably a gift from Gustav Mahler to Heinrich Jalowetz.
